Fundraising

There's plenty of ways .......

During the last 6 years, Nightwalk has raised over £500,000 to support local people with cancer or other life-limiting illnesses thanks to the fantastic dedication of our nightwalkers and volunteers.

Nightwalk is brought to you by North Devon Hospice, to raise funds for both North Devon Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.  The registration fee from each walker ensures that the costs of organising the event are covered; and the cost of running the event are kept to a minimum thanks to the generosity of local businesses, who kindly offer their goods and services.  This means that every pound you raise is shared between both charities.

In 2012 we hope to recreate that buzzing atmosphere on the night and smash all previous successes raising even more!  As you can see, there are plenty of fun ways to fundraise money for your walk.  Below are some tips to help you with all your hard work, but please remember we're on hand to help so please do get in touch if you'd like to.

Keep the fun in fundraising!

This year there have been some amazing ways our supporters have fundraised......

Margaret organised a Coffee Morning at her home and raised £250 for Nightwalk ... what a star!

Andrea organised a raffle at work, with prizes she sourced from some generous local companies...she raised £182 for Nightwalk .... well done Andrea!

Increase the money you raise with Gift Aid

Gift Aid is fantastic for charities.  By encouraging your supporters to Gift Aid their sponsorship, it means that if they are a UK taxpayer, we can re-claim 25p from the Government in every £1 donated, at no extra cost to your sponsor.  All we need is your sponsors full name, house name or number, and postcode and for them to tick that box!

Fundraise online

An online fundraising page enables you to collect sponsorship from friends and family from all corners of the earth at the touch of a button.  You can personalise your page and spread the word by emailing your link to your friends, family and colleagues so they can sponsor you safely and securely online.  Every penny raised through online giving is paid directly to the charities, so you don't have to worry about anything except publishing your page.

Spread the word and let as many people as possible know what you're up to and encourage them to sponsor you!  Here’s a few ideas …

Add a link to your online giving page to your auto signature to help spread the word to your colleagues, clients, friends and family so they all know that you're taking part.  Their sponsorship is just a click away.

Enjoy facebook and twitter!  Post regular tweets and update your status about your training and fundraising progress and be sure to include a link to your online giving page

Raising sponsorship

Ask your sponsors to give you the money when they fill in the form, that way you don’t have to go back to them

Give a copy of your form to some little helpers, set them small targets to work towards (but don’t let them approach strangers or knock door to door)

Ask your top sponsors to put their name and amount down first.  By having a series of high amounts at the top of the form, others are more likely to follow suit!

Always have your sponsorship form with you, you never know who you may meet

Set yourself a reasonable target.  Tell people what your target is, this gives you a goal and people can see how they are helping you to achieve it.

Matched Giving

Does your company have a matched giving scheme?  If so, this means they could double the amount you raise.  Many companies like to contribute this way and they can claim tax relief by sponsoring you.
